Hazard:
Lifting while loading / unloading 300 to and from vehicle, Toting 300 to work area or up/down stairs
- Start out with getting the service vehicle as close to the intended work area as possible.
- Ask for HELP! Position a worker on each side of the power drive. One hand at the driver end and one hand on the legs end. (That way neither one has all the weight of the driver head.)
- Prior to lifting and moving the load, inspect your intended path of travel for obstacles or other possible hazards.
- Get a firm footing. Place your feet at shoulders’ width apart and wear wellsupporting work shoes. Wear your gloves.
- Bend at your knees, not your waist! Leg muscles are stronger and more durable than back muscles. Let your leg muscles to the work.
- When lowering driver to the floor have the RIDGID transporter, cart, dolly, or hand truck ready for use. Check capacity of same before lifting to insure it will withstand the weight of the drives. If not using a RIDGID transporter, is the unit balanced on the cart, etc., so it will not fall off if traveling over uneven terrain?
- If the 300 is to be taken down stairs use the “pipe carry” method. Insert a comfortable length of pipe through the driver, chuck down both front and back chucks to the pipe. Only use the method on a well-lighted stairway with a acceptable hand and stairway rail system. This method also works well if the terrain is too uneven for a wheeled cart or transport.
