Electrical Shock Hazard
Alarm technicians are accessing live (active) alarm panels for testing and servicing. The 120V electrical supply to the panel board is live and does not have any type of insulating cover. THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD. All alarm panels are powered with 110v to 120v AC electrical circuit. The connection points as seen in photo can be identified with blue, black, or white wires. Connectors are most often secured in place with screws. In most cases these connectors have a plastic cover or the connection is behind the instrument board.
Preventative Measures:
- The panel can only be serviced by a qualified competent person.
- Before performing any service work, open the alarm panel and look for the power supply connection point.
- If the connectors are exposed as seen here, close the panel and locate the correct circuit breaker then de-energize the circuit.
- After verifying the panel is de-energized cover the exposed connections securely with electrical tape or cardboard.
- Once the connection is insulated switch the breaker back on to continue servicing the panel. If the breaker cannot be located put on ‘O’ rated electricians gloves to tape over connector.
